Syria & Jordan

I've done a terrible job keeping up with blogging! Today is our last day in Jerusalem, but I never wrote about Syria and Jordan, so this will be a brief description.

Because of the challenge of being able to find speakers in these countries, most of our time was more touring type activities. In Syria, we went to the Krak de Chevaliers, a 1000 year old amazing crusader castle, which was so fun to explore. We also had one of the most amazing meals I've had this semester with bread and dips and garlic chicken, so great!

Driving through Syria was absolutely beautiful! I don't know what I thought it would look like, but it far exceeded my expectations. I think Damascus was my favorite city, I loved the Old City winding streets and markets everywhere. They have one of the oldest ice cream places, which is fabulous! The history in this city is amazing - Ananias' house, the wall where Paul was lowered over the city, the Ummayyad Mosque, etc. Perhaps one of the best experiences was going the hammam, the Turkish bath with all the girls - a great bonding experience!

Gate to the Old City through which you can see "the street called straight" off of which Ananias' house is:

Our time in Jordan was mostly just a way to get into Israel. We stayed in a very nice hotel and mostly just hung out together. We went to the Dead Sea for an afternoon (unfortunately I don't have any pictures), and nothing quite prepares you for the sensation of floating like that. It's really weird

Our amazing room in Amman:

After our time in Jordan, we drove to Jerusalem, which is only a 1.5 hour drive from Amman, but the border crossing took 4 hours!! I'll try to write aobut my time in Israel eventually, but I need to go get some lunch now.

Very cool Rachel. Too bad you take any pictures of the Dead Sea. I bet it was very different in that water. God Bless and continue to enjoy everywhere you go.
